About CCWS
Our Story
Creating Community Wellness Society (CCWS) began in 2010 with the inspiration to provide health and wellness services to residents of Greater Victoria. In collaboration with Victoria Community Health Co-operative (the Co-op) we received grants and donations to develop and deliver educational workshops primarily to seniors. Within a rapidly evolving health care environment, we supported clients to navigate the system, access services and seek supports to maintain their health, particularly in aging.
From 2011-2024, the Co-op operated a Community Health Clinic which began as the James Bay Community Project. In 2018, the co-op received funding to launch an emerging community health centre, providing Nursing Services and Virtual Care appointments to meet the needs of patients who did not have access to ‘in-scope’ services. CCWS continued to support the Wellness sessions also delivered through the health centre. In 2024, the contract and operations for the health centre were transferred to CCWS. Unfortunately, as a result of changes to contract requirements, and a lack of funding, the health centre closed in the spring of 2025.
CCWS is now focusing our efforts on providing health and wellness services in collaboration with community-based organizations, new and existing. We have worked with Cook Street Village Activity Centre and James Bay New Horizons, and we are seeking new collaborations and partnerships. While the majority of our work focused on the needs of seniors, we are now expanding our support to all organizations addressing quality of life factors as described by the Social Determinants of Health (SDOH) https://www.canada.ca/en/public-health/services/health-promotion/population-health/what-determines-health.html
As a charity, we have the ability to serve as a fiscal host for non-profits who support our mandate. If you are within scope and can benefit health and wellness, we welcome your interest.
CCWS receive(s) and maintain(s) a fund or funds and to apply all or part of the principal and income there from, from time to time, to charitable organizations that are also registered charities under the Income Tax Act (Canada).
